Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, but not always easy to find.

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Leonardo da Vinci

At first glance, not much of Leonardo da Vinci’s work oozes simplicity, yet the artist behind arguably the most celebrated painting in history was also responsible for the “painting by numbers’ concept which revolutionised art as a pastime in the 1950s.

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, but not always easy to find.

Take the logistics business and specifically reverse logistics.

Reverse logistics is one of the biggest challenges facing the e-commerce logistics industry worldwide. As opposed to forward logistics it typically involves collection from the final destination for the purpose of capturing value and avoiding return to the supplier or proper disposal.

For some reason this process can be made complicated.

For clients who consistently demand urgency with accuracy in their shipping, complicated means costly.

Our client supplies Bluetooth hands free kits to the European market over a number of Amazon platforms.

They asked us to accept multiple returns from the UK market for delivery to China for disposal.

Further liaison with our client identified that approx. 25% had been labelled incorrectly and delivered to the wrong Amazon DC.

The TCB Group warehousing facility in Liverpool, was able to re-label and return to Amazon, the 25%, with the balance being processed for return to China for further electronic re-work.

The total number of returns exceeded 5,000 units, 1,500 of which were returned to Amazon.

For the uninitiated, this may all sound a little complex and complicated but when you have the right people working to the right process, it can be as easy as painting by numbers.
