Aldous Huxley

In a recent survey, Esquire Magazine voted Clouzot’s 1953 classic “The Wages of Fear’ as the most suspenseful movie ever made – about 4 down at heal workers asked by an American Oil company to transport nitro-glycerine over a mountain range to extinguish an oil refinery fire.

What is perceived to be dangerous and what actually is dangerous is almost a moot point and you will be reassured to learn if you didn’t know already that what was normal procedure in 1950s Hollywood has changed radically.

Safety has become the number 1 consideration for all stakeholders and governmental and customs policies internationally have been written accordingly.

What are the regulations for shipping hazardous goods?

Transport

The regulations have a simple requirement – if you transport dangerous goods by air, sea, road, rail or inland waterway then you must pack and transport those goods according to international regulations.

The process of shipment is by and large simple – you ship by air, road or sea – however meeting the international regulations and complying with legislation can be challenging and best left to the experts, of which there is only 1 in Northern Ireland – the TCB Group.

TCB Group has been involved in the shipping of hazardous or dangerous goods globally for well over 10 years and has worked with some major global brands as well as some ordinary day to day people.

What exactly is a hazardous good?

According to the Department for Transport, “Dangerous Goods” are “pure chemicals, mixtures of substances, manufactured products or articles which can pose a risk to people, animals or the environment if not properly handled in use or in transport.”

There are 9 classifications of dangerous goods:

  • Explosives
  • Gases
  • Flammable liquids
  • Flammable solids
  • Oxidising substances
  • Toxic and infectious substances
  • Radioactive materials
  • Corrosives
  • Miscellaneous dangerous goods

In the transportation of any hazardous materials, the sender is responsible for classifying, packaging and marking any dangerous goods to be transported and compliance can be incredibly challenging.

That’s where TCB Group comes in.
